A Ready-to-Go InDesign Template

The core of the toolkit is a flexible InDesign file designed to match the clean, bold style of Fängelsehåla. It includes:

  • Built-in Paragraph & Character Styles
For consistent titles, headers, and body text—no fiddling required. The sizing was designed to be that Goldilocks “just right” size so that young and old alike can read it quickly without needing to put reading glasses on.
  • Pre-Formatted d66 Tables
Several layout options are included to make your random tables shine. Whether it’s loot, encounters, or strange village customs, drop your entries into the pre-set tables and you’re good to go.
  • Cover and Interior Page Masters
Easy-to-use templates for both the cover and inner pages. You can replace the text and images while keeping alignment and margins neat.

Fonts That Fit the Feel

Typography is a huge part of the Fäng aesthetic, and the template uses two fonts that complement its playful, storybook style:

  • Storybook – A hand-lettered serif font available for free on Dafont. It’s perfect for titles and section headers, evoking the charm of old fairy tale books.
  • Verdana – A clean, readable sans-serif font that should already be installed on most operating systems. Originally used in IKEA catalogs, it brings a touch of utilitarian design to your pages. We use it for body text in Fäng to keep things clear and accessible.

More fairytale-appropriate fonts will be covered in an upcoming blog post, so stay tuned for more typographic inspiration.

A Palette Inspired by the Past

Also baked into the template is a custom color swatch, sampled directly from Art Seiden’s fairy tale illustrations—a palette originally used in the Fäng core book. These tones balance warmth, contrast, and a vintage storybook charm. You’re welcome to use them—or replace them with a palette that better suits your own tale.

Optional Background Textures

To help set the mood, we’ve included four background textures—each one a full-page image you can drop behind your layout:

  • Paper – A classic off-white tone with subtle aging for that vintage storybook feel.
  • Forest – Greens and browns ideal for woodland quests and beast-riddled glades.
  • Winter – Cool and crisp, perfect for frosty landscapes and creeping snow curses.
  • Volcano – Fiery oranges and smoldering reds, great for danger-filled caverns or lava-choked ruins.

These can be used as page backgrounds or selectively behind maps and illustrations to give individual spreads a unique mood.

A Logo for Fäng-Compatible Products

Included in the kit is the official “Fun with Fäng” logo, designed to echo the medals seen on classic children’s books with a bit of Fäng branding. You can add it to your cover as a sign of compatibility—an invitation to readers that what they’re about to experience is part of the greater world of Fängelsehåla.

It’s completely optional, of course—but if you want to show off your connection to the Fäng community, it’s there for you.

Your Adventure, Your Way

These templates and assets are here to support you—not limit your creativity. Feel free to use them as-is, customize them to your heart’s content, or toss them aside and build your adventure in your own style.

The most important thing is that your submission reflects your own ideas, voice, and imagination.

We can’t wait to see what you create!
