In this review, we look at the 1977 Star Wars Sketchbook published Ballantine Books. The book features industrial design images by Joe Johnston who was hired by George Lucas to design the “lived in universe” feel which had been lacking from many science fiction stories previously. We review the sketches of iconic craft such as the Death Star, Sandcrawler, Millennium Falcon, X-Wing, Star Destroyer and more! We also talk about the iterative design process that was driven by factors such as budget and storytelling, which can be applied to video game and TTPRG designers today.
